EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Women executives in Canada at the highest levels made notable strides last year with a year-over-year increase of 50% in the number of female executive officers at the largest public companies in the country.
That’s the good news.
On the flip side, a lot more must be done for women to achieve equality at the highest levels of corporate Canada.
The facts remain: 70% of Canada’s biggest companies are run at the highest levels by men and men only; 93.1% of the highest paid executives are men; 97 of the Top 100 companies have male Chief Executive Officers.
At Rosenzweig & Company, we would prefer to look at the glass half full – or at least working towards half full in the near future. But the data proves there remains a glass ceiling for women at the top echelons of corporate Canada. It is beginning to crack, but these numbers prove it has not been shattered.
We believe in diversity being good for business, good for corporate Canada. The more we know about and understand the barriers to advancement for women in corporate Canada, the sooner we can eliminate the glass ceiling. That is the rationale behind our Annual Rosenzweig Study on Women at the Top Levels of Corporate Canada.
